A language used rarely versus one used through media are very different 'skill levels'

Knowing multiple languages doesn't mean you use them all equally or in the same way. German, for instance, might only come up in very specific occasions, making it a more dormant skill. English, by contrast, can stay active and fluid through indirect but constant contact — shows, books, social media — even if you never formally practice it or speak it in everyday life. The nature of your relationship with a language matters as much as whether you 'know' it.
